Linoleum laying guide

Linoleum is the most popular floor covering. And this is natural, since linoleum is inexpensive, it is easy to lay it, it lasts a very long time, and the number of its various colors is varied. Also, this material has high sound insulation and low thermal conductivity.

Since laying such a floor covering is easy and fast, you can carry out this procedure yourself, without resorting to the services of specialists. As a result, you can save some money.

Linoleum is of two types: for the home (household) and for commercial premises. Household linoleum is much cheaper, but inferior in quality. Commercial linoleum is stronger, as such a coating is used in rooms where there is a high traffic of people.

This flooring is produced from different materials: rubber, PVC, colloxylin, glassine. Linoleum comes in different thicknesses. Its basis is on fabric and on paper.

There are two types of linoleum laying: glued and glueless. In the latter case, linoleum is simply spread in the room on the prepared floor and pressed down with skirting boards. The first method is a little more complicated, the coating is laid using glue.

After the linoleum was delivered from the store, you need to spread it and let it lie down for several hours. It is desirable to install weights on the surface. Now you need to decide which method of laying the coating you will use. The adhesive method is much stronger and more durable. But when using the glueless method, linoleum can be quickly replaced, if desired, with another coating. Most often, this method of laying linoleum is used in rooms with a small area.

When using any method, first of all, you should prepare the floor surface. It must be perfectly smooth, otherwise bumps form, and the linoleum will quickly break through during operation. In addition, the floor with irregularities will look ugly.

When the linoleum is ready and the floor surface too, you need to cut the linoleum around the perimeter to fit it to size. You can use a utility knife for this.

Be sure to apply primer to the surface of the floor, and if the wrong side of the coating is smooth, lint-free, then apply primer to it. Dry the linoleum.

Next, the adhesive composition is applied. You can use Bustilat M or PVA. Apply glue gradually, gluing linoleum, iron it, expelling bubbles. The technology is similar to wallpapering walls. After the coating is spread and glued throughout the room, you can install and fix the skirting boards.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated. Laying linoleum is easy, you do not need much time. By the way, caring for such a floor covering is also quite simple. It is not necessary to use detergents, the most important thing is not to use very hot water to wash it.
